Usenet Provider Awards Announced For This Year On Usenetreviewz

By

2011 came and went. And I sincerely hope that not only did you have a good year last year, but an even better one next year. Here on the Hub, and on our website, we get a lot of questions about the providers we review. Things like “Who is really the best?” or, “Which provider gives the best newsreader with their service?” And it can be confusing to pick a provider...there are so many good ones, that it can easily become confusing trying to determine the best provider for the things you will need.

How The Awards Are Judged

That's why at the beginning of every new year we have our annual UsenetReviewz Awards. It provides a way for you to find out which Usenet providers have been the most active in the last year, and which ones did the best. We watch these guys all year long, looking at their down-times, and reasons for the issues, their improvements, any additional services that they offer, and (one of the big weighing factors,) customer satisfaction levels. Customer satisfaction we observe through the postings, and rants of the customers on our site, and in the provider forums that we visit often. I try to look and consider all the factors that are relevant to the services.

The Categories

There are only 10 categories in our awards at this time, but we discuss adding new categories every year in our office. Here's a list of the categories and what they pertain to:

  • Most Improved Usenet Provider – This is for the provider that improves, adds to, and updates the most. Takes a lot of work throughout the year to get this award.

  • Top Quality Usenet Provider – “The Cream of the Crop,” top notch provider...no matter the cost. We look at member happiness, and services provided, they have to be only the best.

  • Best Deal/Valued Usenet Provider – The biggest bang for your buck...pretty self explanatory. Lowest price doesn't always count here though, quality and features are in the mix, too.

  • Most Anonymous/Private Provider – Concerned about monitoring? How about getting around censorships? This category is for you then.

  • Best Usenet Newsreaader – Not necessarily the cheapest, or even the easiest to use...but the ones that don't fail to get the headers, are fast, and don't break your downloads.

  • Best Small Usenet Newsreader – These newsreaders cant be very big on the download, memory usage, or processor hogs. These newsreaders will be good to your resources available.

  • Best Web-based NZB Downloader – Only a few newsreaders can claim to be NZB oriented, and even fewer are web based. But this will be the best one available.

  • Best NZB Site – These dudes will have not only the most NZB's, but more NZB's will be complete, and site organization counts on this one.

  • Best Usenet Search Service – The most indexed newsgroups, most retention searched, site organization must be good, and filters must be provided. These days an adult filter is almost a requirement to win in this category.

  • Simply Usenet – this award is for the provider that gives the basics...but they must be perfect and have a long track record. Speeds, retentions, message completion, and propagation (getting the posts to all their servers,) speed are looked at.

The awards Are Rolling Out

We initially announced the awards a few days ago, and a new award will be announced every few days. So far the award for Most Improved Usenet Provider for 2011 has been announced, Newshosting won it...and with good reason. I'm not going to tell you all of them, but they did roll out one of the best newsreaders I've used in a while. For the rest you can go to our site here.
